Frequently asked questions.

Everything about working with SamEnrico — for platforms, publishers, rights holders and authors. If your question isn't here, email sam@samenrico.com and we'll answer it personally.

What formats do you publish?

Every title is published in hardcover and paperback, as an eBook, and — where the story suits it — as a full-length audiobook and/or a full-cast audio drama. See the sections on the home page for a rotating look at what we publish.

What's the difference between an audiobook and an audio drama?

Audiobooks are single-narrator readings of a full book, chapter by chapter — the format Audible and similar services publish. Audio dramas are full-cast performances with sound design, score and immersive mixing — closer to a radio play or a Netflix series for the ears. We publish both, and some titles exist in both forms.

Do I keep the copyright to my book?

Yes — always. Every publishing agreement we offer is a licence, not a transfer. You retain copyright in your work, and we licence the specific rights we agree in writing. Any right not explicitly granted remains yours.

How is pricing structured?

Every service, package, course and contract is quoted individually. We don't publish a fixed price list because scopes vary so much — one book needs a light edit, another needs full developmental work; one platform needs 30 episodes a month, another needs 500. Tell us about your project and we'll send a written quote, usually within 3 working days.

Publishing tiers (Starter, Professional, Premium) are shown on the Publishing Tiers page for comparison — enquiry for pricing.

What royalty do authors earn on sales?

Royalty rates are set out in the written agreement and depend on the tier — Starter, Professional or Premium. Rates range from 30% to 50% of net receipts, and every agreement is documented in plain English before you sign. We retain copyright in your name, and any right not explicitly granted remains yours.

"Net receipts" means what we actually receive from the retailer after their discount — not the cover price. Statements issued quarterly, paid the following month.

How much does it cost to publish with you?

Because every book is different — length, genre, editing required, audiobook runtime, marketing scope — we don't publish a one-size-fits-all price list. Send us your manuscript or a summary and we'll come back with a written quote within 3 working days. No obligation, no upselling. See the Publishing Tiers page for a comparison of what each tier includes.

How long does publishing take?

Typical timelines:

  • eBook + paperback only: 6–10 weeks from final manuscript
  • With audiobook: 10–16 weeks
  • Full Premium release with marketing campaign: 16–20 weeks
What distribution do you have?

Every trade-standard channel. Retail: Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, Google Play, Bookshop.org, Audible, Spotify and Scribd. Wholesale: Ingram, Gardners, Bertrams. Library: Overdrive, Hoopla, BorrowBox, Bibliotheca, Ulverscroft, EBSCO and ProQuest.

All channels receive the same ONIX 3.1 metadata feed, updated whenever anything changes.

Do you offer audiobook and audio drama production?

Yes. We produce full-length audiobooks with either professional human narration or reviewed AI narration, and full-cast audio dramas delivered as serialized seasons. Both include editing, mastering and distribution into Audible, Apple Books, Kobo, Spotify and library networks. Enquire for a quote.

Can I publish in multiple formats?

Yes — every tier includes the formats you need. Author Starter covers eBook and paperback. Author Professional adds audiobook. Author Premium adds hardcover as well. You can also add individual formats to any tier as extras.

Do you take all genres?

We publish widely across fiction and non-fiction, but not everything. We're actively acquiring contemporary and historical fiction, crime, thriller, romance, science fiction, memoir, biography, history, business, self-development, popular science, health and illustrated non-fiction.

Do you offer editing?

Yes. Developmental editing, line and copy editing, and proofreading are all available as standalone services or included automatically in the Professional and Premium tiers. Enquire for a quote based on your manuscript.

How does rights representation work?

We act as your rights agent for translation, film and TV, audio, serial and merchandise on a commission-only basis. No retainer, no listing fee, no charge if we don't place a right. Commission terms are set out clearly in your representation agreement and paid through to you with each statement.

Do you require an exclusive deal?

No. Our agreements cover the rights we produce and distribute, but they don't lock you out of other channels. If you already sell direct, or through another publisher in a specific territory, we'll work around that.

Can I publish previously self-published work?

Yes, and it's common. Send us the manuscript along with the details of what you published and where. If the previous editions are still live on any platform, we'll either request removal or replace the listing as part of our onboarding.

What about ISBNs?

We register ISBNs for every title through Nielsen (UK) or Bowker (US), depending on your market. Barcodes are generated to EAN-13 standard for print editions. You don't need to have an ISBN before you publish with us — if you already own one, we'll use it.

Do you work with platforms and streamers directly?

Yes — alongside our own publishing, we produce content at volume for streaming platforms, apps and content labels. Serialized fiction, audio drama, video audio drama, audiobooks and localization. See For Platforms for detail.

Do you accept submissions from outside the UK?

Yes. We publish authors from every territory and distribute worldwide. Contracts are issued in GBP unless a different currency is agreed. Non-UK authors are paid via bank transfer or PayPal with FX charges absorbed by us.

What if my book doesn't sell?

We can't guarantee sales — nobody can. What we can guarantee is that every title is produced to trade standard, distributed to every channel, and marketed according to a plan we agree with you. Titles that underperform continue to be available; there's no delisting after a certain date.
